The Allenby neighbourhood of North Toronto centres around the Allenby Public School, with Eglinton as its south border, Briar Hill as its north Border, Avenue Road on the east side and Latimer Ave on the west.  The Allenby School was built in 1927, and most of the real estate around it built in the 1930's and 1940's. The School's excellent reputation has attracted a lot of young families with children, and the fact that it has a French Immersion Programme for grades 1 to 6, has of course added to its popularity. Originally, there was a water tower on Roselawn Avenue, named after Lord Allenby , a British World War One Hero, which has since become a police communications tower.

Allenby real estate originally consisted of detached 2 storey Tudor Style homes, interspersed with bungalows.  A lot of extensive renovations over the past number of years has resulted in larger, luxury homes, for this North Toronto neighbourhood, with bungalows being replaced with custom "in-fill" properties.  In general, prices in the area are in the $600,000 + range, and well over $1,000,000.

The main shopping district for this North Toronto community is along Eglinton Avenue, with a variety of clothing stores, home furnishings, food emporiums, cafes, and fine dining restaurants.

Eglinton Avenue is also home to the North Toronto Memorial Community Recreation Centre.  It houses both indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, a walking track and weight room and two artificial skating rinks, which are used for tennis during the summer months.

Area residents can access the Beltline Trail, through the center of Toronto, from Chaplin Avenue and Oriole Parkway, south of Eglinton Avenue.

For students beyond the elementary school age, both Forest Hill Collegiate and Havergal College, are good, well-respected options.
